Sunday morning, April 24th was a chilly start for our first RCR of the year. 41 degrees for our first rider of the day didn’t hamper her determination to ride well in front of “L” judge Claudia Tarlov. A beautiful sunny morning at Field of Dreams farm in Lebanon, CT. Manicured footing, and a table of treats for the horses, flowers and a positive supporting atmosphere greeted all that participated.
This event was the 3rd in an educational series for the Connecticut Dressage and Combined Training Association this year. Already members have been treated to a centered riding unmounted clinic and a mental toughness seminar. Weather always proves to be a challenge this early in the year for mounted sessions but we were blessed to have a great day. The RCR has become an annual event and we have added another session on in August. Check website for details.
Half hour sessions prove to be an excellent way to ride a test, receive feedback, then either re ride the test or have a short lesson to help in those trouble areas. Many times what shows up is not always what is a problem at home. It is the perfect venue to bring out your horse and gauge where you are in your training and show preparedness.
Claudia judged 12 riders of all levels and age. From a beginner novice eventing test to a 4th level dressage test. She cleverly summarized each ride and addressed areas for each that could improve scores and performance. Some riders opted to re ride the test. Others used their time for a short lesson. Each rider was given a scored dressage test with comments from the judge.
