Open letter to the CDCTA membership
*Please read this letter carefully. The future of our club is at stake!*
Hi to all members: The term of our current president, Ann Bowie, will be completed this coming January. So far, no one has stepped up to volunteer to be our next president. The club will not survive. I know that everyone thinks that being president of a club is a thankless and time demanding job and, I suppose, in many ways it is. I was president for 2 years and it wasn’t all fun and games. The most difficult part of the job is getting other people to help. After that, the fun can begin! A good set of people on the board can make life so much easier. I know that everyone is busy. I was, too, when I was president. Actually, I spend more time on Membership duties now and dealing with the wonderful USDF than I ever did on Presidential duties!
So, I ask you, “Why did you join the club, if not to fully participate in its activities?” You didn’t have to join to go to our shows or many clinics. Did you join just to get your USDF GMO membership? I hope that you joined our club to meet other riders and become a community of like minded riders. I have met so many wonderful people through participating in club activities, meaning that I volunteer at shows and clinics and became a board member and president. I really enjoy going to shows and seeing other CDCTA members there, rooting them on and applauding their accomplishments. That makes the show experience so much more rewarding.
As I have said before, the job of president is not rocket science. Anyone can do it. Everything that needs to be done is written out, step by step. So, please reconsider your decision not to volunteer. Your help is desperately needed. Don’t be the one that causes the club to fail. Are you the non-riding member in a family membership? You can still become president. Show your daughter what it means to belong to an organization.
Yes, I am laying on the guilt trip!! Other methods have not worked. So, please let Ann or me know that you are willing to step up and work for the club. Don’t let the club fail. Our club was founded in 1974. That makes for a long list of people who put in their time to make everything work. Do it for them, do it for yourself, and do it for your daughter.
